Talapus
Took a quick day hike to Talapus, Olallie and Island Lake. Trail to Talapus is snow free and tons of skunk cabbage blooming and salmon berries blooming. Trail from Talapus to Olallie has a few tricky confusing turns as the trail is covered by snow but soon enough we found the trail again. From Olallie to ridge overlooking the lake is fairly straightforward and beautiful following the ridge to Island Lake. Hiking from the ridge to Island lake has quite a bit of snow coverage, maybe 75%. Snow level about 1-2 feet left. Will only be a week or so until it's fully melted out. The bugs at Rainbow lake were already bad. Make sure to bring bug spray, glad we did!

Diablo Lake

North Cascades

Follow the Diablo Lake Trail up and across talus slopes on the flanks of Sourdough Mountain to impressive cascading waterfalls and stunning views. This hike in the North Cascades Institute's backyard makes a great option for an early season hike in stunning North Cascades National Park, much of which is inaccessible during the winter and spring.
